Being A Life Warrior

I’m learning to be a Life Warrior. I like the word warrior. It’s strong, sexy, amazing, cool, and a little bit scary. I know a few Life Warriors that I greatly admire, and these warriors are all people who don’t look for excuses, instead they just DO! The life warriors that I admire the most are those who CONQUER but without the expense of running over others, or without exhausting themselves. I suppose a good way to put it is that these folks I’m thinking of have Life Warrior Balance.

Sarah FragosoAs I work on becoming a Life Warrior, I realize that I am truly capable of doing whatever it is I set my mind to. I can decide to pursue something and not give up when I hear no; even if I hear no more than once, it’s up to ME to keep pushing. However, I have to push with integrity and with care. I have to push without hurting others and without hurting myself. Being a Life Warrior comes with a lot of responsibility and as I raise my children, I desire to see them conquer life but my husband and I must lead them by example and show them that part of being a good Life Warrior also means you must have compassion for others, compassion for yourself, and most importantly, compassion for those who want to stand in your way. Only with compassion can you truly overcome.

Another important aspect of being a Life Warrior is being humble. There is always more to learn and no matter how great you might become, there is always someone greater, there is always room for growth, and love should always come first. If you think about the greatest heroes and warriors of our time, their path to success was not just about the fight – the great heroes of our time also had excessive heart, courage, and passion.

I’m also learning to be a bit fiercer as I put on my Life Warrior armor. Fierce does not imply being unkind – to me it implies bravery, integrity, and inner power. Bravery to face the world with your realness shining through, having the integrity to stand up for what you believe in, and possessing the inner power to be able to take risks, to fail and try again, and most of all, the inner power to succeed because sometimes success is even scarier than failure. With success comes responsibility and that’s when we need to be our most fierce. Once you have created something that you stand for, your responsibility lies in its defense and in the veracity it takes to stay true to your creation so yes, being a bit fiercer is high on my priority list.

What does being a Life Warrior mean to you? Who do you admire? What are you striving for? What are the hang-ups that get in your way of being the Life Warrior that you want to be? Let me know in comments!

  1. Yes!! I believe it’s about being empowered by believing in ourselves. Knowing we have power gives us ownership of that power. Awesome article.

    1. You are so right sister and you are one of those Life Warriors that I was thinking of when I wrote this article. Thank you for always inspiring me! xoxo

  2. Oh Sarah! I love this! Being a life warrior to me means doing all you can to life this life as fully and authentically as you can. Learning to be yourself with out all the stories and conditioning that we have learned, seeking out the experiences you want to have and doing that, expressing the love that you feel, going where the passion and energy lead, connecting, inspiring, loving all that you can. I think the biggest obstacle in doing that is that little voice that some times comes in and says – Who you are you that you think you can be doing this?

    Lots of love, girl!! <3

    1. Hi Kara!! Lots of love to you too! You are an AMAZING Life Warrior and I love seeing your journey and I’m so glad to know you. Keep being amazing and we all have that little voice in our heads, its about reasoning with it and being fierce despite it! 🙂

  3. sarah,

you have always been an extraordinary and strong woman. i have followed you since you began and admire how you have transformed over the years. your courage to be honest and bold always inspires me. this message however, this message, to me, was your best. it hit me hard this morning when i read it after some information came in that made me feel weak and question some things i am trying to build. i made me question my honesty and openness with people, my passion and desire to a sport that i love with all my heart. this message today from you just reminds me of the strong, fierce and compassionate person that i am. at my core i am genuine and only want to help people and increase the passion for something that i love so much. and that there is always a lesson to learned from everything that only makes you better. my own fears and insecurities can sometimes hold me back from creating what i want, but having the courage and strength to believe in myself and my passions is all that matters.

thank you so much for your vulnerability and compassion. you are amazing, real and fierce!

Yes!! Believe in yourself!!! Thank you so much for sharing Chelsea, now go create what you want to be in the world, I believe in you!

  4. Love your attitude and determination. After a lifetime of self loathing, doubting, extremely physically ill and abused in my relationships, I decided to take charge.
Have lost nearly half off my body weight, changing my diet, self image, medications and outlook. The relationship part not so much. Decided my evaluation of people is lacking, I really have little to no contact with but a very limited few, especially in the love/intimate type. Content till strive for a better me, concentrating on the upkeep of my home and my pets.
Excited to learn more from you and your info!

    1. Hi Julia,

Wow, so proud of you for making such great changes in your life! Every step towards health is a new discovery about what needs to be addressed next to help improve your life. The excitement is in the journey!

  5. OH Sarah, how right you are. To me being a Life Warrior is taking a clear-eyed view of what comes my way, trying always to see past the emotions I carry to the simple truth that is inherent in any situation. It is so easy to be swayed by emotions to think that we hold the only truth, when in any situation there exist a variety of truths. The life warrior is able to see through the emotions to her own truth, and is strong enough to stand within that truth and speak it, live it without apology or holding back. Thanks for making me think about this today. I think you are a Life Warrior and am so glad we are friends!

    1. Thank you so much Lynn, I’m so glad we are friends too, my life is better with you in it!

I absolutely LOVED this article!! So inspirational!! I just wrote the words “LIFE WARRIOR” on a note card and put it on my vision board. When I look at it, I think of all the things you wrote about in this article. I think of these things a lot and I’m ALWAYS striving to be and do MORE. I too, admire those people who don’t make excuses. Those people who take hell-bent, joyful, passion-fueled action with everything they do!!! We all know at least one person like this. I wish I knew more. They know that most answers reveal themselves through doing…not thinking. They know that deciding is FREEDOM and indecision is TORTURE. They never waste time. They take ACTION. It took me a long time to really GET IT!! And I’m still GETTING IT. Thanks for the great read!! XOXO

    1. Love this Rina, and love you too! Thank you! xoxo

  7. To me, being a Life Warrior is doing what you know is right even in difficult situations. There are times when you’ve gotta stand up for what you believe in, who you are, and even with tears in your eyes keep going because it’s the right thing to do. I have so much respect for the Life Warriors who are determined, compassionate, heart-strong, and full of love creating their most abundant life. What stands in my way, often is fear. I can talk myself out of anything, but the converse it true too. Talking myself into my goals, hopes & dreams is possible. Thank you for being a role model.

Life Warrior – wow! That is what I am! You just nailed it. To me a life warrior moves forward. And even though that seems simple, sometimes a life warrior must tactically retreat in order to move forward. Sometimes the hill we see int he horizon is not a hill, but a mountain, and more strategy is required to mount it. that is when friends, family, support, and lots of love (okay maybe wine too) comes in! We seek the path but find that there are many paths. The challenge is which is the right path for us. Sarah – you are a mighty life warrior, a leader and an inspiration for others – just look at how many follow your lead! Thank you for sharing and reminding us to move forward!

    1. Thank you SO much Dana!!! 🙂

I love your definitions of warrior. My search for definitions of warrior brought me here. I am a fighter but I don’t want to always be in a state of conflict, opposition, dissension with other humans. So your highlighted description is very helpful. Thank you.
