Little ol’ me in Woman’s World Magazine!!! And of course a recipe…

I am completely humbled, excited, and honored to say that Woman’s World Magazine contacted me a few months ago in regards to Paleo nutrition and they are running a story in their April 26th issue on the Paleo diet including an interview and photos of little ol’ me!!  Woman’s World first contacted Dr. Cordain who put them in touch with Robb Wolf who sent them my before and after pics, and there you go, I’m in a magazine.  So Freaking Crazy!!  So, make sure to check out the April 26th issue of Woman’s World, found in your local grocery isle….  What a trip life is!!  : )

Ok, so on to recipes.  Here is what we had for breakfast the other day.  It was not breakfast-y at all but why does breakfast have to be?

Un-breakfast Breakfast

Diced pork carnitas (from TJ’s)

1 giant bunch of red chard

1/2 a bag of frozen bell pepper and onion mix from TJ’s

1/2 a can of salsa verde from TJ’s

lots of olive oil

Chop and then saute greens in the olive oil with the bells and onions until the greens are soft.  Throw in the pork loin until warm and mix in salsa verde.  Oh, and the next day, I had some left over so I scrambled a couple of eggs with the left overs for more of a breakfast type breakfast.  Enjoy!

I’ll be looking for that issue. Let’s hope they don’t tarnish it with something like “experts still warn that diets high in fat are the leading cause of heart disease” when of course we all know it’s the grains and processed foods…

    1. Sarah says:

I know… I of course am thinking the same thing so let’s hope that they spin it all in a positive light for the most part!! The interview was very positive but of course they could do their own little bit about it as well…. We’ll see!! : )

  2. Tracey says:

WOW,that is so neat Sarah! I’m going to hunt down that magazine!!!

  3. I too am loking forward to the issue. You deserve it, you are an amazing person.

  4. Of course being a guy I’m not familiar with this magazine. So I looked it up. I find it is supermarket weekly magazine with a circulation of 1.6 million readers. It concentrates on short stories about popular woman-focused subjects such as weight loss (which is the main headline in nearly every issue, causing some to nickname it “Weight Loss World”). I just hope the article isn’t as snarky as some of the other mainstream media. I suspect it won’t be. Can I presume 4/26 is the pull date and it will be on the stands on 4/19? It looks like they don’t put the issues online.

    1. Sarah says:

Hey Don! Yes, it will come out before April 26th, they haven’t given me an exact date but I’m assuming around the 19th as well. I also hope that they are not too “snarky” as you said. They are totally weight loss focused and every issue is about the latest diet craze and in my interview I tried desperately to focus on eating Paleo as a way of life and a way to find a life time of health and shared how eating paleo not only helped my body composition but changed my life in SO many other ways (no more joint pain, clear skin, no more swelling in my legs, the list goes on and on and on….) So, we’ll see, BUT if the article even turns a couple people on to eating paleo, then the word will spread even more, and I’ll be happy… : )

Going to buy that issue for my Mom! I work as a Demo cook for T.J.s in Baltimore and rarely get to cook much that I actually eat. Would love to do this one, if you dont mind!

    1. Sarah says:

      Hey Warren,
I would love for you to demo this recipe, that would be so cool! : ) Thank you!

  6. Meg says:

Made recipe last night for dinner–it was AMAZING! 3 yr old scarfed it down. Subbed some south georgia collard greens for chard and turned out great:) Thanks for the great recipes.

  7. Denise says:

Yea! Sarah! I knew you had great things in you the first time I visited your site! Thanks for all your hard work keeping the blog up–this magazine article is a reward and probably the first of many to come!!

    1. Sarah says:

      Thanks Denise! : )

  8. And being a woman’s magazine I hope they call it paleo, like you do, and not a caveman diet. So will you be on the front cover!?

  9. As the one that has been pushing the paleo diet on the Internet the longest, I am most interested in this issue. So I decided I’d take a walk to the supermarket and see when issues arrive. Besides, they are getting ready to film an episode of “Bored To Death” across the street and I wanted to check up on the action.

At the supermarket I learned that they no longer carry magazines! I guess the neighborhood (Park Slope Brooklyn) became too ritzy? So I went to the news store. He said issues arrive on Friday. So he expects to see your issue on Friday April 16th.

My husband just found your website this morning and I’m SO excited! I am a mother of 3 as well and we’ve been eating paleo for over a year. I’m excited to try some of your recipes! I live in Telluride Colorado, which is over an hour away from a decent grocery store, so sometimes it can get tricky to create variety in our diet… I was wondering if you give your kids any supplements? We dole-out spoonfuls of fish oil but that’s it. Thanks for your effort in helping folks have faith in feeding themselves real food!

    1. Sarah says:

Hey Clea! So glad you find the site, I hope it helps! All we give our kids are fish oils as well but I am looking into a good D supplement as well, with all the new research coming out about the benefits of D and knowing that we simply do not get enough… Good luck and keep me posted on how things go for you and your family!

  11. I have taken Vitamin D for years. I also get my D3 level tested. It will vary by the season. I’m now taking 4,000 units/day. I buy from http://freedavitamins.com/

  12. I have a question for you. i have recently been warned about the dangers of cooking with olive oil, i see in this recipe that you do. What are your thoughts?

    1. Sarah says:

With any oil, it’s important to NOT let the oil reach it’s “smoke or flash point”. If I am stir frying something like greens that cook fast at a low temp, I feel ok about using olive oil, but something like burgers or steak that need to cook at a high heat, I go for grape seed oil or coconut oil that have a higher flash point. If your olive oil is smoking and smelling funny in the pan, it’s way too hot and should not be used to cook with…

  13. The issue arrived on the news stands yesterday. The article did make the front cover, but you didn’t. Instead on the front cover is Eva La Rue. Putting a celebrity on the cover, of course, has more draw. You have a sidebar in the two page spread with before and after pictures. The article quotes Cordain extensively. It raves about the diet and does refer to it as paleo.

One strange thing is the headline for the recipes along the bottom is “Eat like Eva did!” Why the past tense? We here all know that to work this has to be a permanent dietary change.

The pages are larger than my scanner. I will have to stitch them together. I will put it up at PaleoDiet.com, but not until after the issue’s pull date. To be fair to the magazine I suggest you spend the $1.79 and buy a copy.

  14. I have been doing paleo since I started doing crossfit in February. I was referred to crossfit from my son that does crossfit in Orlando, Fl. He looked great at Christmas and told me that I could do this. So I am going to No Excuses Gym in Suwannee, Ga and love it. People at work are noticing that I have lost weight and it feels great when you go from a Size 12 to Size 10 in two months. The paleo recipes I have used is from my son and then online. I have made Spagetti Squash, Roast, breakfast casseroles, and love the fresh vegetables. I think this is something that everyone that wants to be healthy can do.

    1. Sarah says:

I agree Patty, it’s totally doable to eat Paleo, and really not that difficult once you change your way of thinking a bit!! Congratulations on your weight loss!!
