Sneak Peak Recipe from the Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook!!

On Friday I asked folks on my Facebook page if they wanted a meaty meal or a summertime side dish sneak peak recipe from my new book coming out on September 4th, the Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook – and MEATY WON!!

I’m so excited for this cookbook.  I dumped my heart and soul into the Family Cookbook and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.  The Family Cookbook is a very different book from my first book, Everyday Paleo, but it makes a perfect companion. The recipes are great for anyone, with our without kids, and the content encompasses several useful tools for life in general (budget guide, prep ideas, time saving strategies, meal plans, school lunch ideas, super fast weeknight meals with minimal ingredients, and much much much more!) and finally, I dedicated a portion of the book filled with ideas of how to bring your family closer together and how to simplify this crazy life we all are living.

For me, living a paleo lifestyle is a lot more than simply what’s for dinner and connecting with the ones I love has been the biggest gift that our family has received as we move forward on our journey.  My hope is that this book gives you and your family some invaluable tools that will not only make life a bit easier but also strengthen your bond and bring your joy.

With that being said, here’s that sneak peak recipe I promised – Best Ever Chicken Wings.   These wings are a perfect summertime treat and my  kids literally line up for these bad boys.  If you bring the Best Ever Chicken Wings to a potluck or party, you will make more new friends than you can handle; I promise. I hope you enjoy!!

Best Ever Chicken Wings

2.5 lbs chicken wings

Marinade

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger

3 tablespoons coconut aminos

1 tablespoon sesame oil

½ cup apple juice

Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions

Prep time: 20 minutes + 30 minutes at least for marinating

Cook time: 35-40 minutes

  1. Preheat your oven to 425.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all of the marinade ingredients.
  3. Add the chicken wings to the bowl of marinade and mix well until all the wings are coated. Let the wings marinate for at least 30 minutes but 1-2 hours is best.
  4. Line a baking sheet with foil and place one wing at a time on the baking sheet, making sure to shake off any excess marinade and do not crowd the wings onto the sheet.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes turning over half way through cooking time.  Serve sprinkled with the sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

  2. Those look delicious!! Where do you find coconut aminos?

    1. Emily says:

I have to order them! They’ve been hard to find recently (due to a voluntary recall) but I found some a couple of days ago on iHerb.com. I’ve gotten them from Amazon, too, or occasionally in the “hippie foods” section of the supermarket.

    2. Sarah says:

At most health food stores, whole foods, etc., or you can order online! http://astore.amazon.com/everpale-20/detail/B003XB5LMU

I love your recipes. I’m sure the wings are fabulous. My goal is to make every recipe in your cookbook. I’m looking forward to the new one.

I am so, super excited for this cookbook! It seems like a lot of the big players in Paleo don’t have kids, and kids make it so much more challenging to eat this way, I think. My four add time constraints and a whole lot of picky palates to the game. I definitely need those quick, healthy meal ideas, and school lunches. Family Cookbook, pre-ordered and anticipated!

    1. Sarah says:

Thank you so much Emily, your words express EXACTLY why I write my books. : )

  10. Sher says:

We’re having a big family party this weekend and I’m thinking these wings will be perfect. Then, since your new book is being released on my birthday, I now have the perfect “excuse” to buy it!

  11. I started reading your blog about 6 months ago and just over a month ago, I decided to take a bit of a plunge and try eating a little differently. I wanted to start with baby steps so I decided to start by not eating anything made with flour or grains. My husband is Italian so bread and pasta are a really big deal to him. I didn’t for one minute think that he would go along with me but he said he would try.
I need to loose some weight. He does not. As of this point I do not feel any different but I’m not giving up hope. It took me 20 years to put on these 60 lbs and I figure it will take time to get it off. My husband on the other hand has discovered that the acid reflux he has suffered with for 30 years is all but vanished. He’s seen specialists, had invasive tests done, and eaten Tums like candy. He had the giant bottles of them stashed everywhere. He tried Previcid. That stuff made food shoot straight through him and not in a good way either. He doesn’t need any of that stuff anymore unless he eats something with flour or grains in it.
This one simple change in the way we eat has changed his life completely. He has more energy, he can sleep laying down, and he can spend the day without dealing with buring acid attacks.
Thanks for the info, the support, and the recipies.

    1. Barbara says:

Kim P, I have found the exact same thing. I’m 2 weeks into a strict Paleo diet and I have had NO acid reflux or heartburn, indigestion, nothing! Before when I ate spaghetti I would just die at night but I tried having meat sauce with zuchinni noodles and I had absolutely no hint of heartburn or acid reflux. Yeah!!!! I’m so excited!!

  12. Allie says:

Is there anything I can substitute in lieu of the coconut aminos? If so, how much?

    1. Sarah says:

Wheat free tamari or Bragg liquid aminos -same measurement!

  13. Marlo says:

Looks delicious. I am new to paleo and was given your website as a place to start. This probably sounds super stupid but wouldn’t apple juice be considered processed? I’m just curious because I have kids and they love juice but it’s filled with sugars and a few chemicals?

    1. Just get the organic 100% juice. No chemicals and only sugars naturally ocuring in apples.

  14. Denise Herman says:

Im so excited for you and cant wait for the new cookbook to come out!!! Im happy to have found this new way of eating for myself and my family…thank you for making this transition a little more easier. 🙂

  15. Awesome! I used my food saver to freeze small batches… but these wings were delicious and they all quickly vanished. Great recipe!

  16. Shannah says:

Made these tonight and they were very good. Everyone loved them. However, don’t space out and do what I did. I just went out and bought chicken wings. When I pulled the book out for the recipe, I saw that she had used Buffalo chicken wings. Would have been much better and easier to eat than the full wings. But still very good.

  17. Ginger says:

These really are the best wings!

  18. HeatherS says:

I made these last night, but the skins turned out so tough, I could barely bite into them. And my 3 yr old definitely couldn’t. I had to end up tearing all the skins off for him. Those suckers were tough to pull off! I spent more time pulling skins off than I did prepping and cooking them. What gives? Should I have removed the skins before baking? I cooked at 425 for 35 min. Is it possible my oven runs hot and I overlooked them? After I pulled the skins off the meat underneath was juicy and tasty though. Unless I could figure out where I went wrong, I probably wouldn’t make it again. More hassle than it was worth.

    1. Hi Heather,
Yes, it sounds to me like they were overcooked! Did you have your oven set on convection? If so, that could be it. I’m so sorry they didn’t turn out! If you do make them again, I would check them after 20 minutes because yes, I think you oven runs a bit hot. : )

  20. Charlotte Travis says:

Hi Sarah, I’ve made these wings a few times now and for the most part I enjoy them. The first two times I made them quite a few of them came out somewhat charred. The last time i made them they were all quite charred. Twice I used coconut aminos and once I used Braggs aminos. I don’t like to use aluminum foil, so I lined the pan with parchment paper. Would that make a difference in how they come out? What could be the problem?
I enjoy both of your Everyday Paleo cookbooks.
    Thank you,
    Charlotte T. Saugus, MA 01906

    1. Hi Charlotte, it might be that your oven runs a little hot? Try turning down the heat by 50 degrees and check them often so they don’t char. Not sure if the parchment paper makes a difference, but I wouldn’t think so. I’m so glad you are enjoying the books!
