Enloe Medical Center: An Introduction to Paleo!

I would like to express my gratitude to Enloe Medical center for inviting me to speak last night to our community regarding paleo nutrition.  Attendance was amazing!  168 people showed up last night and filed into a room that was only prepped for 90.  Fortunately the staff could collapse the back wall to enlarge the rooms and bring in more chairs to accommodate everyone. I am more than thrilled to see the excitement in our community about paleo and I hope that last night was helpful and encouraging for folks who are interested in learning more about a paleo lifestyle.

  1. Fantastic! Go change the world, Sarah! 😉

  2. Hi Sarah,

I work for a government agency and they know I
do Paleo and I’ve been approached to talk about it. Any literature, hand outs, anything I could use to provide an informed presentation?

    Thanks and love your podcast!

    1. I don’t really have an handouts that I use. I did a talk recently for a group of Navy Seals and their families and I created my own handout based on my presentation and included shopping lists and recipes. I wish there was a resource that had handouts readily available but nothing yet that I know of!

  3. How exciting! I’ve had friends ask me about our Paleo lifestyle and I always love sharing with them all that I’ve learned thus far and of course, always send them to your blog for ideas. Keep up the great work 🙂

    Sarah,
Congrats on branching out in (another!) new direction. I have to say, at this point I’m checking your website daily and consider you my guru! Thanks so much for all of the good information and encouragement on this lifestyle. I’m not following it perfectly (on weekends) but have made huge changes that are paying off…and it has been much easier than I thought!
    All best,
    Michelle
P.S. Made the chocolate pudding. Deeee-lish!

    Sarah,
I’m thrilled that you were able to present at a medical center and have the turnout that you did. I’m a Registered Nurse who has embraced the paleo lifestyle (and your website!) and I find some of my biggest opposition in the large medical center where I work.

Getting medical professionals to see the benefits of the paleo diet is a difficult, but not insurmountable task. Fortunately, people in your state have a much more open mind than those in Baltimore, where I work. I look forward to the day here when I can tell someone at work how I eat not have to “prove” the benefits. Thank you so much for the work you do and the positive energy in providing valuable information to all of us. Keep it up!

So glad to hear that it went well and that Robb did not have to become the “Oncoming Storm”…. lol

Really though it is awesome to see how far this is all progressing… well deserved…

    Respectfully,
    Steven

    1. Thank you so much Steven!! : )

Sarah — Being a part of both the EMC and NorCal “families”, I was so sorry to have missed your presentation at the medical center on Tuesday. But what a great turnout!!! And I’ve heardh great feedback. I recently wrapped up a month of On Ramp with 6 EMC colleagues I herded into the NorCal gym. It was a great experience. But to add to that is the evidence that our medical center staff are really starting to embrace the Paleo lifestyle…..as well they should to exemplify good health choices in our great community. The other day, someone popped by my office with a tray of cupcakes. Sweet gesture (literally!), and not that unusual for an environment where “potlucks” – although well intentioned — can be the death of us. I smiled and thanked her, but said “Sorry…not Paleo.” The kicker was, there was another staff member in my office who gave the SAME REPLY! We looked at each other and simultaneously said “You two!?” Yep…it’s catching on. And a good thing, too!!!! I hope that when more medical professionals realize how the Paleo lifestyle not only helps you look and feel great, but also supports our high stress jobs by giving us good rest and strong bodies. It’s a win win for us and for the community we have the privilege to serve.

        1. Hi Chris,
So great to hear that paleo is catching on in our community and amongst our health professionals!! Warms my little heart…. : ) Hopefully Enloe will have me back again, I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would love to be able to contribute again if the wonderful folks at EMC will have me. Hopefully I’ll see you at the gym!

    Hi Sarah,
I’ve just recently been turned on to your site and LOVE IT! I’m a paleo mom and have questions about finger foods for babies that are paleo-friendly. Any suggestions?

    1. Yes! soft cooked veggies, small pieces of meat – great when cooked in a slow cooker, fruit peeled and diced into small pieces, yams, avocados, bananas. Also, check out http://www.growinguppaleo.com for some more great ideas for paleo babies and listen to our podcasts – we are always talking about babies!! : )

  13. Super awesome! Was this recorded (Audio/Video)? I would love to see or hear this! Thanks and keep spreading the word!

    1. Hi Alex,
No but I wish it was recorded!! Next time we’ll make sure of it!

  14. That is exciting! Congratulations on such a fantasteak turnout! Must get to something local. Would be priceless to connect with Paleo people in real life.

    1. Thank you Melissa!! : )
