Paleo Travel Snacks – and a fun snack for home…

My family took a road trip this weekend and although family trips are fun, anyone with kids can attest that hungry travelers will be grumpy travelers so packing food to go is essential! Ideas for travel foods include:

Beef Jerky – Trader Joe’s carries organic gluten free jerky and I also recommend the beef jerky from Paleo Brands

Almonds, cashews, and walnuts

Unsweetened Dried Fruit

Apples

Paleo Women Granola

Carrot sticks

Coconut flakes

All of the above food items can be packed easily for trips in the car or carried on the airplane!

Speaking of snacks, here is a fun idea for a summer time snack at home:

Cucumbers (I used lemon cucumbers)

Sliced almonds

Sea Salt

Using a hand held chopper, finely chop a handful of sliced almonds.  Place the chopped almonds in a small bowl and add a pinch of sea salt if desired.  Thinly slice the cucumbers and coat both sides with the nuts by pressing the cucumber slice firmly into the nut mixture.  Crunchy, nutty, and fun!

Enjoy!

  1. Sarah, where can you find unsweetend dried fruit? I’ve checked TJ’s and other local stores and everything has added sugar…..

    1. Sarah says:

Hi Joe! Trader Joe’s has unsweetened dried bing cherries, unsweetened dried apricots, unsweetened dried figs, and I think a few others as well, but thats what we usually get.

  2. where did u get the lemon cucumbers?

    1. Sarah says:

      Hey Ira,
A friend of mine gave them to me from her garden but I also see them at my local farmers market all the time and at our local health food store. Regular cucumbers will work just as well if you can’t find the lemon cucumbers. : )

  3. Great ideas. Just picked up some unsweetened dried apricots today for the kids lunches at school. This gave me some other ideas. 🙂

  4. Just tried the Paleo Woman Granola and it is very good! Thanks for the ideas.

This looks very similar to what we bring out on trips. Can’t get enough of the TJ’s jerky. Love the site.

    Hi,
I’m new to this food allergy lifestyle. I’m gluten free, dairy, soy, corn and lentils too. Even most of the gluten free products are off limits due to the additives. I’d like to find out how to get the Paleo woman granola and if you have any suggestions on other snacks as well as breakfast-type foods besides eggs.
    Thanks,
    Susie

    1. Hi Susie!
You can order the granola directly from http://www.paleowomen.com For breakfast, I often eat left overs from dinner! Another fast idea is gluten free chicken sausages (I like the ones from Trader Joe’s), sliced avocado, and cherry tomatoes. For snacks, I eat a lot of beef jerky, nuts now and then, nitrate free turkey slices with avocado, and carrot sticks. I hope that helps!

  10. Hi, I was wondering where you find dry fruit without added sugar.

    1. I buy dried fruit without added sugar at Trader Joe’s. Not all of their dried fruit is without sugar but we have found the dried apricots, dried bing cherries, some of the dried apples, dried figs, and a few more to be without added sugar.

  13. Great site! My wife and I have seen huge results since adopting a paleo lifestyle. Incidentally, we also own and operate a bacon specialty-foods company (some of our products aren’t paleo, but we’re moving in the direction of our whole ‘menu’ ultimately being paleo only. Just thought I’d mention – if you don’t mind – that we carry paleo-friendly bacon jerky, which make a great snack…especially our “Backdraft (HOT)” and “Garlic Pepper” flavors…our delicious BBQ flavor contains brown sugar. Anyway, thought I’d share, even though it could be perceived as kinda self-serving. Thanks & all the best to those of you out there making the transition – it’s worth it if you stick to it!
